Former Redskins LB Brian Orakpo named to 2019 NFL All-Retirement team

Remember Brian Orakpo?

The Washington Redskins first-round pick in 2009 decided to call it a career this offseason, ending a stellar career that began in Washington and weaved through Tennessee over the course of 10 seasons.

Naturally, ESPN decided to throw Orakpo on its 2019 NFL All-Retirement team:

Orakpo wasn’t the flashiest player on this list, but he produced a sneaky-good career with four Pro Bowls over 10 years. He played six of those seasons with the Redskins, who drafted him ninth overall in 2009, followed by four seasons with the Titans. “I always wanted to be able to walk away from the game on my terms, healthy and in a great state of mind,” Orakpo said in a retirement statement. Now he can focus on his cupcake side hustle.

Orakpo had an amazing career, yet it’s still interesting to see his name up there with the likes of Rob Gronkowski and Julius Peppers this offseason.

An elite pass-rushing force and strong all-around player, Orakpo tallied 66 sacks and 423 tackles over the course of his career. He debuted in 2009 as a rookie with 11 sacks and proceeded to have 8.5 or more in all but two of his six seasons with the team.
