Former Rangers star Jamie Ness turns out as Motherwell trialist

Motherwell are mulling over a move for former Rangers midfielder Jamie Ness.

The 30-year-old, who has been without a club since leaving Dundee in October last year, is turning out for the Steelmen as a trialist this afternoon in a bounce game against League One Dumbarton.

Graham Alexander's side returned for pre-season training on Monday and the Steelmen are hard at work, while looking to add to their squad ahead of the new season.

They have friendlies against Dumbarton today and Millwall next Saturday as preparation, while a friendly on July 3 is also expected to be arranged.

Lanarkshire Live Sport revealed on Thursday that 'Well were looking at a number of players from down south, including Welsh international goalkeeper Tom King, Irish defender Darragh O'Connor and midfielder Joe Muscatt.

And it's understood all three are featuring in today's clash at the Rock as trialists.

Ness would bring a wealth of experience to the middle of the park, having played more than 100 games down south across spells with Plymouth Argyle, Scunthopre United and Crewe Alexandra since leaving Ibrox.

He played just eight times for Dundee last season in a campaign hit by the pandemic.

The competitive action kicks-off for 'Well on July 14 away to Queen's Park in the Premier Sports Cup, while the Premiership action kicks off just over a fortnight later at home to Hibs on August 1.

So far they have added striker Connor Shields from Queen of the South, former Tranmere striker Kaiyne Woolery and ex-Maidstone United winger Justin Amaluzor.
