Former Rangers star in post Ibrox revival as he's hailed best player in India after ex-Motherwell ace lifts league title

Former Motherwell captain Peter Hartley has hailed the impact of Greg Stewart after the former Rangers attacker helped his Jamshedpur side to their first league title.

An incredible season for the Men of Steel has saw them lift their first Indian Super League title, with 10 goals and 10 assists from Stewart a big factor in why Owen Coyle's men have earned silverware.

Their success was confirmed with a 1-0 win over ATK Mohun Bagan on Monday and captain Hartley was on hand to lift the trophy aloft.

Hartley joined Jamshedpur in 2020 following the end of his time at Motherwell and Stewart linked up with him last year after leaving Rangers.

They have set a new league record for points - 43. Hartley and Stewart will look to add the Hero ISL trophy to their Winners' Shield.

Motherwell's former captain, speaking on the Lanarkshire Live Sport Podcast , insists Stewart's arrival has made all the difference at Jamshedpur.

He said: "It's crazy. He is the best player in the league. He's incredible. Some foreign players take to the league, some don't, but Greg has really took to it.

"Our manager gives him freedom and he works hard for the team. Usually when you have a player like Greg, you have to sacrifice the defensive work.

"But he does both. He's a great lad to have around. Greg doesn't think he's above anybody as he's down to earth and he's a hard worker.

"We go into games this season with the belief we are going to score, which is great as a defender as all we need to do then is our job."
