Former Rangers loanee Ovie Ejaria once valued at £3m released on a free

Former Rangers loanee Ovie Ejaria has found himself without a club after the midfielder was released by English League One side Reading due to injury issues.

The 26-year-old, who played for the Ibrox team for a short spell in 2018 under Steven Gerrard, was once valued at £3million while on the books at Liverpool.

Ejaria left the Light Blues due to struggling to adapt to the physicality of the Scottish game.

And Gerrard expressed his disappointment at the time of the player cutting his loan spell short.

He said: "Am I disappointed he's gone? Yes. Do I think it's the right decision? No, because I think he had an incredible opportunity here.

"But I wouldn’t stand in any kid’s way whether he was signed with us or on loan. I want players here who are committed and want to help and want to play here.

"He’s a young kid, living away from his family.”

After leaving Rangers Ejaria, who was capped once by England at under-21 level, joined Reading on loan before making that move permanent.

He played 124 matches for the Royals, scoring nine goals in the process before his departure.

A statement from the club read: "Ejaria’s contract was due to expire after the end of this current season.

"However, with injury and fitness problems limiting first-team action of late and a desire from the club to reduce its expenditure, an agreement was amicably reached for Ovie to leave the club early
