Former pub in the Swansea Valley engulfed in flames as fire tears through building

A former pub went up in flames as a fire tore through it.

Fire crews were called to the former Y Boblen pub on Bryn Road in Cwmllynfell, just after 5am on Monday, July 27.

Firefighters from Amman Valley, Abercrave, Pontardawe, Seven Sisters, Tumble and Ammanford joined efforts to save the property.

But the two-floored building was severely damaged by the fire.

Martin Evans, chairman of Cwmllynfell Community Council, said: "Fortunately, no-one was in there, because it has been closed for some time.

"It closed its doors for good two or three years ago.

"Emergency services were there this morning [Monday], and thankfully were able to deal with the situation."

A Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "Firefighters extinguished the fire using four main jets, two hose reel jets, a thermal imaging camera, small gear and a 10.5 meter ladder.

"Crews received the stop message at 3.01pm.

"The cause of the fire is under investigation."
