Former President Trump gives testimony denying mass extortion charges

Former president took the stand for about 5 minutes.

Former President's Testimony Concludes in High-Profile Trial

The highly anticipated trial involving the former president took an intense turn today as he took the stand to testify. The former president's testimony lasted only a few minutes, but it was packed with contentious exchanges and controlled by a vigilant judge.

Before his testimony, a ten-minute back-and-forth between the attorneys and the judge took place regarding the questions that would be permitted. The former president vehemently denied the mass extortion charges against him, stating that he had never met the woman in question and had no knowledge of her existence. The judge cautioned him to keep his voice down.

Once the questions were established, the jury was called in, and the former president was sworn in, pledging to tell the truth. His lawyer quickly asked him if he stood by his previous deposition testimony, to which he responded with a resounding 'yes.' When asked about his denial of the accusations, the judge intervened, striking any additional statements beyond the initial denial from the record.

The former president's lawyer then specifically inquired whether he had instructed anyone to harm the accuser. He adamantly denied any such instruction, expressing that his aim was solely to defend himself, his family, and the office of the presidency. Again, the judge struck all but the simple denial from the official record.

As the trial progressed, the accuser's lawyer began cross-examination. Attempting to bring up the previous trial, she posed two questions, but the judge sustained objections, deeming them beyond the scope of the current interrogation. Ultimately, only one question was permitted, asking the former president if he had attended the first trial. He confirmed that he had been present.

During a second opportunity, the former president's attorney inquired about his legal counsel in the prior trial. However, the judge prevented him from answering, as the former president had not testified or attended any trial days. Thus, his interaction with counsel could not be addressed.

The former president's time on the witness stand was markedly restricted, with the judge maintaining tight control over the process. He was not allowed to make any side comments, political statements, or engage in political campaigning. His responses were limited to the specific questions posed, primarily affirming his previous deposition testimony, denying the accusations made against him, and disavowing any intention to harm the accuser.

As the former president exited the courtroom, reporters overheard him saying, 'No, this is not America, this is not America.' However, it should be noted that these statements were made outside the presence of the jury.

Following the conclusion of the former president's testimony, the defense rested its case. The judge is currently working with the attorneys to establish jury instructions. Closing arguments are scheduled for tomorrow morning at 9:30 am.

The trial's outcome will undoubtedly have far-reaching implications as the nation watches closely to see how these high-stakes allegations against the former president unfold in the courtroom.
