Former Nottingham takeaway to re-open as gourmet burger bar Ohannes

Just weeks after arriving in the UK, Ohannes is set to open its second gourmet burger bar - this time in the heart of Nottingham city centre.

The company, which originated in Turkey where it has 16 franchised restaurants, opened its first UK takeaway in Arnold in December and customers are giving 10/10 for "the best burgers."

The next location will be Long Row, in the former Maryland Chicken shop which has stood empty for several months.

Work is currently underway to transform the unit, which unlike Arnold, will have seating for 20 to 30 diners to eat in.

"Arnold has been really successful," said a spokesman. "We are hoping to open in Nottingham at the end of March or beginning of April."

Menu highlights are the Mexi Burger (British beef patties, salsa with red kidney beans, jalapeno and fried onions), the Indie Burger (curry marinated grilled chicken, curry sauce, friend onions and homemade aioli, the Swiss Burger (beef with barbecue sauce, homemade mushroom mayo, grilled mushrooms and caramelised onions) and the Big Lebowski (beef, salsa, cheese slices, homemade aioli and fried onions).

A veggie burger will be served with pea protein and beetroot, salsa and caramelised onions.

All the sauces are made from scratch on the premises to a secret recipe. Customers can accompany their burger with sides of onion rings, chips, buttermilk chicken bits and mozzarella sticks.

Fans of the Arnold takeaway can't get enough of the mouth-watering fast food.

Lucy Green said: "Well well well! 100% the nicest burger I’ve had in a long time! Value for money is fantastic. Small menu but something for everyone. The chips are really tasty, the salsa on my burger was delicious. Really great recyclable packaging, friendly staff. Driven past a few times and so glad I finally tried it!"

Kirsty Szeluk commented: "I don't normally leave reviews but had my first burger tonight and WOW.

"I'm a veggie so normally struggle at burger joints but the veggie burger is literally the best burger I've ever tasted. Huge portion and the seasoned chips were to die for. Will definitely be returning!"

Three more Ohannes branches are planned across Notts by founder Mehmet Yazicioglu.
