Former Nottingham Forest midfielder admits to regrets and 'uncomfortable journey' in career

Former Nottingham Forest loanee John Bostock admits to having “regrets” in a career which sees him on the lookout for his 14th different club.

The midfielder spent last season on loan at the City Ground from Toulouse, making nine appearances in the Garibaldi.

He left the French side this summer and is said to be keen to stay in the UK, where he is now based.

Bostock started out at Crystal Palace and was hailed as the next big thing as a teenager, attracting interest from a number of European heavyweights at the time.

He went on to join Tottenham Hotspur, but didn’t make a single first-team appearance and now has a CV which includes spells at Brentford, Hull City, Sheffield Wednesday, Swindon Town, Toronto FC, Royal Antwerp, OH Leuven, Lens and Bursaspor, as well as Toulouse and the Reds.

"I do have regrets. Maybe the big regret wasn't even not joining Barcelona but leaving Palace,” he told the BBC.

"I think that's part of life, knowing that you could have made a better decision. But I wasn't really in a place to make those decisions. I had people making them for me and I genuinely know they had my best interest at heart.

"It's been an uncomfortable journey, but one I probably wouldn't change."

Unable to establish himself at Spurs, the 28-year-old says he has also questioned his own ability at times.

He added: "Before you know it you start questioning 'well am I really that good? Am I really that amazing a player?'.

"Then you start to look at people's opinions of you - it's a dangerous spiral for any person, especially in sport, once you start to question yourself."
