Former Nottingham Forest manager lands new League One job

Former Nottingham Forest manager Colin Calderwood has been appointed as assistant head coach of League One side Blackpool.

The 55-year-old took charge of Forest between July 2006 and December 2008, managing the club for 125 games during that period.

He has most recently been in charge of League Two club Cambridge United, leaving the role in January this year, after 61 games as manager of the Abbey Stadium club.

Calderwood will assist manager Neil Critchley at Blackpool, who joined the club back in March.

Chris Cohen on the story behind him potentially signing for Leicester City before joining Nottingham Forest

“I’m absolutely delighted to join Blackpool. I’ve seen a lot of the division now because I’ve been scouting for a team in League One,” Calderwood told the club’s official website.

“I’m looking forward to working with Neil and the rest of the staff. I’ll be there to aid and assist in the best way possible and use my good experiences of football to help everybody within the Club.”

While Critchley added: “I’m pleased to welcome Colin to the Club. Colin’s experience and achievements in the game speak for themselves. We feel he has the perfect qualities to both complement and enhance the existing staff we have in place here at Blackpool.”

His first game will see Blackpool travel to Burton Albion in the League One clash.

The Tangerines are currently in 18th position in the table, having picked up seven points from their opening nine league games.

Blackpool fell to a 1-0 defeat to AFC Wimbledon in their last outing, in a game which saw them fall to nine men for the last 15 minutes of the clash.
