Former Nottingham Forest favourite sends special message after winger's vital goal

It was a moment to remember for Nottingham Forest youngster Alex Mighten as he scored his first senior goal at the City Ground.

And it wasn’t just Reds fans he caught the eye of - with a former Forest favourite offering his congratulations.

Once a Red, always a Red, it seems.

Mighten struck shortly before the half hour mark, netting what proved to be the winner as Blackburn Rovers were beaten 1-0.

It was his second goal in the Garibaldi, and the first time he has netted on home soil.

Ex-Reds right-back Matty Cash noted his old teammate getting on the scoresheet and posted on Twitter: “My guyyyyyy.”

Mighten responded after the game, saying: “Learning from you my brother.”

The winger found the back of the net in the 26th minute against Rovers.

An Anthony Knockaert free-kick dropped for him on the edge of the area and a deflection took it past goalkeeper Thomas Kaminski.

Chris Hughton’s side needed a penalty save from Brice Samba to make sure of the three points, however.

The goalkeeper thwarted Adam Armstrong from the spot to ensure the Reds got back to winning ways after their midweek defeat at Swansea City.

Victory lifted Forest to 17th in the table, seven points clear of the bottom three.

They now face successive away games, traveling to Rotherham on Tuesday night before a meeting with bitter enemies Derby County on Friday evening.
