Former NI security firm boss ordered to pay £70k after proceeds of crime order

A former security firm boss has been ordered to pay out £70,800 after being slapped with a proceeds of crime order.

The case was taken against Stephen Ian Nixon, from Portadown , Co Armagh , by the Security Industry Authority.

The order was granted at Antrim Crown Court on Friday. In June, the 47-year-old owner of Eventsafe Security was sentenced to four months for “ignoring” 100 hours community service handed down for supplying unlicensed staff.

The SIA said the “confiscation of Nixon’s assets was sought” following Nixon’s conviction for a range of offences against the Private Security Industry Act 2001 (PSIA)”.

Spokesman Pete Easterbrook said: “This stands as a warning to others who may choose to engage in criminality in the security industry. Although Nixon initially believed he could hide some of his assets from our investigators, we were able to trace them and present them to the court.

“Those who believe they can commit offences, and then hide the proceeds are very much mistaken.”

The SIA said it received intelligence in 2017 that Nixon was still trading despite having had his licence revoked in May 2016.
