Former Manchester United coach issues Gareth Bale transfer warning to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Former Manchester United coach Rene Meulensteen believes that his ex-club would be taking a huge risk if they sign Gareth Bale this summer.

The Real Madrid star has been linked with a move away after the return of Zinedine Zidane to the Bernabeu.

Old Trafford has been mentioned as a possible destination with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer currently rebuilding his squad for the new Premier League season.

However, Meulensteen, who spent 11 years at United across two different spells, has now questioned whether it would be a good move for his old club.

"You would obviously talk about bringing in a high-profile player in, but is Gareth Bale still at his best?" Meulensteen told talkSPORT.

"We all know he’s had his fair share of injuries, so it’s always a risk."

Meulensteen did admit that there would be benefits to signing Bale if he was still at the top of his game.

"But, on the other hand, a top-notch Gareth Bale is a really good asset for Manchester United," he continued.

"He brings power, he brings pace and he can create and score goals.

"It’s a bit difficult to see where he is at the moment, though."
