Former Manchester United and Liverpool trialist Matthew Knox set for Northern Ireland move

Former Livingston wonderkid Matthew Knox is set to join Northern Irish side Warrenpoint Town, according to reports.

The forward burst onto the scene when he made his Lions' debut just four days after his 16th birthday, leading to a slew of trials at some of the UK's largest clubs.

However, a move never materialised and The Herald reports he is now ready to sign a one-year deal at the Danske Bank Premiership side.

The Prestonpans-born youngster spent time training with the likes of Everton, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur as a teenager.

He also spent time at Liverpool, scoring in a friendly win over the Japanese youth international team during a friendly at their Melwood training centre.

Former Rangers manager Mark Warburton became an admirer of Knox after he set up the winner for Livi against his side in April 2016, leading to an invitation to train with the Ibrox club.

Knox spent time on the other side of Glasgow with Celtic while still a Livi player, but he was restricted to just 29 appearances for the West Lothian outfit alongside loan spells at East Fife and Berwick Rangers.

A move to Sunderland also failed to come to fruition - despite Knox impressing during a week's trial at the club.

He left Livi permanently in 2019, signing for Brechin City and was due to join Halifax Town before the COVID-19 pandemic hit.

The Point avoided relegation from the Northern Irish top flight despite finishing in the relegation play-off places when the outbreak put a halt to the season.
