Former Liverpool striker Fabio Borini set for return to British football

Former Liverpool striker Fabio Borini could be set for a return to British football.

The 29-year-old who is a free agent after leaving Verona at the end of last season, is in talks to join Championship side Swansea City, report the BBC.

As the one-cap Italian international is out of contract, a deal does not have to be completed ahead of Friday’s 5pm transfer deadline for Football League clubs.

A £10.5million buy from Roma in 2012, the Italian was Brendan Rodgers’ first signing as Reds boss, after taking the reins at Anfield.

Borini scored three goals in 38 games for Liverpool over three years, spending the second season on loan at Premier League rivals Sunderland before returning to the Stadium of Light in an £8million permanent deal in 2015 and after two more years on Wearside, he joined AC Milan.

If Borini was to sign for Swansea, it would be his second spell at the Welsh club having previously been there as a loan player from Chelsea – under Rodgers – in the 2010/11 season, netting six times in nine Championship games.
