Former Liverpool man identifies key issue to solve ahead of Champions League clash

Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy has identified the key area where the Reds need to improve despite a strong start to the season.

Liverpool sit top of the Premier League thanks to seven consecutive wins, with the 1-0 victory at Sheffield United on Saturday ensuring the Reds retained a five-point lead over Man City at the top.

Jurgen Klopp's men, however, suffered a 2-0 loss at Napoli in the Champions League earlier this month.

Ahead of their second match in the group stage of the competition against Red Bull Salzburg on Wednesday, Murphy has spoken about the improvement his old side must make.

"Klopp will be a little concerned with the performance (at Sheffield United) after the games against Chelsea and Napoli," Murphy told talkSPORT.

"When you are a top team and you are having the success Liverpool are having at the moment, you play in a comfort zone. They have been starting games a bit lackadaisical. They have been doing what they need to do to get through the match.

"You can't keep doing that and get away with it. They had a bad goalkeeping error and got away with it. The mindset has to be a bit better and sharper.

"They should have been a goal down at Chelsea and they lost at Napoli. I'm all for them winning ugly but the overall performance in recent weeks will be worrying. Good performances get you wins generally."
