Former Liberal MP Rory Amon has been arrested and accused of breaching his bail conditions after being accused of alleged child sexual assault.
The 35-year-old was arrested around 10pm on Wednesday. He was brought to Day Street Police Station, where police alleged he breached his bail conditions.
Amon has been refused bail and will appear before the Downing Centre Local Court today.
In April, the former MP for Pittwater pleaded not guilty to 10 charges of sexual offences against a teenage boy, including five counts of sexual intercourse with a person over the age of 10 and under 14.
Prosecutors allege that when Amon was 27 years old, he pretended to be a 17-year-old to organise a meet-up with a 13-year-old boy whom he allegedly sexually abused.
According to the Sydney Morning Herald, Amon first became involved with the boy on a hook-up site before the conversation moved to Snapchat. Prosecutors claim that Amon “knew that the complainant was a child under the age of 16 years when he committed these offences”.
The former politician quit NSW Parliament shortly after the allegations came to light. However, he has denied committing the acts he’s accused of.
“The nature of the charges against me are such that I will be unable to continue to fully represent my community in Parliament. As a result, I have tendered my resignation as the Member for Pittwater, effective immediately,” he said in a statement.
“The people of Pittwater should have a representative who can dedicate one hundred per cent of their time advocating for this wonderful community. As I defend myself against these charges, I will not be able to devote my full energy to representing them.
“As a result, I have tendered my resignation as the Member for Pittwater, effective immediately.”
Amon is set to face trial on February 16, 2026.
