Former Leeds United favourite urges Whites to sell striker

Former Leeds United player Noel Whelan has urged the club to part ways with outcast Caleb Ekuban as the club look to move him on to pastures new.

It has been revealed that the 25-year-old is close to a move to Trabzonspor on a permanent basis, with the striker having spent the season so far on loan at the Turkish side.

Ekuban joined Trabzonspor last summer on a loan deal but the caveat was that the Turkish side could sign him permanently if they so wished for £860,000, after initially paying £170,000 to take him on loan, according to Football Insider.

Now Whelan has spoken with the website and demanded that his former side see sense and move Ekuban as quickly as possible.

“He’s not good enough to play for Leeds, we saw that last season,” Whelan explained. “He is surplus to requirements as we need a better quality of player. We don’t need him and I’m sure we will be pleased to get him off the wage bill.”

Ekuban has netted eight times in 30 matches in Turkey and it seems as though Trabzonspor are eager to land him on a permanent deal.
