Former Klopp striker clarifies comments about Liverpool's Mohamed Salah and his old boss

Former Borussia Dortmund star Mohamed Zidan has sought to clarify comments he made about a Liverpool player.

The 38-year-old retired from professional football in 2015, and spent four years with the Bundesliga outfit between 2008-2012, who were then managed by Jurgen Klopp.

In an interview earlier this year, Zidan claimed that Klopp has spoken to him many times to say that he was better than Mohamed Salah.

Salah did not move to Europe until 2012 when he signed for Basel, later having spells with Chelsea, Fiorentina and Roma before joining Liverpool in 2017.

Now Zidan has looked to clarify the misconceptions around his comments from earlier this year, and believes he did have the potential to be a better player than the Reds forward.

“I did not say that I am better than Salah,” Zidan told Egyptian TV channel AlNahar .

“I said that Klopp told me that if I had the same commitment as he has, that I would have been better than what I was.

“I would have achieved a lot more. Maybe more than what Salah has achieved if I had the same commitment and concentration on and off the pitch.

“I had lots of surgeries on my knees and my back, and that affected me a lot.”
