Former Ireland U21 winger Simon Power completes move to Harrogate Town

Simon Power's latest move is a permanent one as he has joined Harrogate Town from Norwich City.

The former Ireland under-21 winger spent a good deal of his Canaries career on loan, to Dutch side Dordrecht, to Ross County in the SPFL and most recently to Kings Lynn Town in the National League in two separate spells.

Power, 22, admitted: "I'd been at Norwich for three years, obviously it's a tough thing to take on when you're being told you're not going to get a new contract.

"But I felt like because of King's Lynn I was doing well, I had interest in the January window and Harrogate seemed very keen, and it was pretty much a no-brainer really for me to come up to play in League Two.

"I'm buzzing to get started."

Power believes that his experiences in different leagues and different countries will stand to him as he looks to settle in at the League Two outfit that is in 20th place in English football's fourth tier.

"100%, back in Ireland at age 17 I was playing men's football so I'm very comfortable playing men's football, I'm used to it," said the Greystones man.

"It has been all different. My first loan move was to Holland, so it was quite different to Ireland or to Scottish football, it was all very technical and it really helped my game.

"In Scotland it was a lot more physical and playing at Kings Lynn really toughened me up as well.

"I have all sorts of aspects of the game to improve but I'm still young and have time to develop, and that's why I'm here."

Power is one of six players signed to help boost Harrogate's chances of staying up.

Team boss Simon Weaver said: “We’ve liked Simon for a while now, we knew about his last Summer at Norwich and he’s gone and nailed it with his performances at Kings Lynn out on the right left, or up front.

“He’s a real pacy player who is very direct in his style and I think he will excite the supporters".
