Former Hibs midfielder Stephen Glass linked with Dundee United manager's job

Former Hibernian midfielder Stephen Glass has emerged as a candidate for the Dundee United job, reports suggest.

Ex-Arsenal keeper Jens Lehmann emerged as a shock target for the Tannadice dugout following Robbie Neilson's sudden departure for Hearts.

However, The Courier reports that Glass, who spent four years at Easter Road, is also high on the shortlist after an impressive start to his coaching career in the United States.

The 44-year-old has been in charge of Atlanta United 2 - the feeder club to the MLS side of the same name - in the USL Championship since January 2019 after initially joining the club as an academy coach.

He previously served as assistant manager to current Republic of Ireland boss Stephen Kenny at Shamrock Rovers.

Glass made more than a hundred appearances for the Hibees after joining in 2003, helping the club qualify for the Uefa Cup a year later under Tony Mowbray.

The Dundonian previously represented Aberdeen, Watford and Newcastle United, appearing in the Magpies' 1998 FA Cup final defeat to Manchester United.

The link comes after Neilson's surprise return to Tynecastle after guiding United to the Championship title last season.

Former St Johnstone boss Tommy Wright has also been linked with the role, however he is also thought to be high on the shortlist for the vacant post with the Northern Irish national side.

Ex- Hearts manager Craig Levein has also been tipped to complete a managerial merry-go-round by returning to the side where he spent three years between 2006 and 2009.
