Former Hibs midfielder explains next steps after shock SPFL manager decision

Kevin Thomson says he needs a challenge that excites him if the former Hibs midfielder is to take up a management gig.

After youth coaching experience at Rangers, he took over at League Two club Kelty Hearts last season, guiding them to the fourth tier title. He was widely expected to lead them in League One after his style of football won plaudits in his maiden senior term but provided a shock when he left with nothing imminent lined up.

Thomson - who featured for Hibs at Easter Road between 2003-2007 - says it's all about taking up an invigorating opportunity. Speaking to Open Goal, he said: "I want the right job. I don't want to be that kind of person who applies for every job and is on that sort of merry-go-round. That's not me saying that I'm any different from anyone else but I want to present myself well because of where I want to get to.

"I've done my hard yards and I'll have had my academy going six years in November. I have worked my way up through the Rangers academy starting from the U13's right up to the B team.

"I took a risk going to Kelty as much as they took a risk on me really, and not many people would've left a full-time job at Rangers to go and take a part-time gig in League Two.

"I've taken calculated risks in that period. I've put a lot of hard work into a five or six year period so to potentially throw that away for maybe not the right job would certainly be naive."
