Former GP with pressure sore dies amid family’s concerns over hospital

The family of a retired GP who died last month has concerns over care he received.

David Glatt was suffering from a “Grade A pressure sore” when he died at Heathers Nursing Home, in Chipping Sodbury, on March 11.

An inquest into the married 88-year-old’s death was opened on April 3 at Avon Coroner’s Court.

The coroner’s officer said: “The family has raised concerns over his care and treatment in Sunderland.

“The deceased had recently moved to Heathers Nursing Home, from Bryony Lodge Nursing Home in Sunderland to be nearer his family.”

The officer gave provisional causes of death as pneumonia, Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, dementia and the pressure ulcer.

London-born Mr Glatt spent time receiving treatment at Sunderland Royal Hospital last December.

The officer said his family had concerns about his care at the hospital and care home in Sunderland.

Inquest opens into death of beloved granddad after school wall collapse 

Assistant coroner, Dr Peter Harrowing, said the family, Sunderland Royal and Bryony Lodge are “interested parties” in the inquest.

He adjourned the inquest to June 18.

Sunderland Royal has been approached for comment. Bryony Lodge declined to comment.
