Former Edinburgh Greggs will be turned into award-winning patisserie café

A former Greggs in the City Centre of Edinburgh will soon be turned into a new patisserie and artisan café as the popular Broken Clock café opens their new permanent location in Edinburgh.

The Broken Clock café has long been a well regarded Glasgow staple from their location in Park Road. However, soon they will be opening a new location on the East Coast as they move away from the Bonnie and Wild marketplace.

After opening in Glasgow in 2020, the café has since moved to the shared marketplace in Edinburgh’s newly opened St James Quarter. However, the café announced on July 26 that they will be moving to a more permanent location on 27 Broughton Street in the city centre.

The move was announced on the café’s social media, telling people that they have closed their unit at the Bonnie and Wild market and will soon post the opening date of their new location. They also showed off a picture of the new café while it’s being worked on, with a coat of bright blue paint and their Broken Clock painted over the door.

The announcement was met with excitement from locals looking forward to the new opening, with one of them saying: “It's time for Edinburgh to get the full Broken Clock experience.”

The Broken Clock Café describe themselves on the Bonnie and Wild Marketplace as “a combination of traditional and experimental patisseries. Outstanding looking cakes made with the high-end ingredients, latest technology and crazy ideas.”

This attitude towards baking won the café “Out of Home Business of the Year” at the Baking Industry Awards in 2020. Their offerings include an eclectic mix of savoury and sweet options including classics like Paris-Brest to the more unusual Ruby and Lychee Cake.
