Former Celtic chief executive Dom McKay has broken his silence on his shock Celtic exit, but still refused to reveal the full story behind his abrupt departure.

McKay lasted just 72 days in the role after replacing Peter Lawwell in the summer of 2021, with Celtic citing “personal reasons” at the time.

Nearly five years on, the episode remains one of the club’s most curious modern chapters.

Now speaking on BBC Scotcast, McKay addressed the situation publicly but insisted the key details will remain private. "It was really personal to me and it was private for me,” he said.

“I’ve been really respectful about not talking about it.”

His brief spell came during a period of major change at Celtic, with Ange Postecoglou arriving and a significant rebuild underway following a disappointing campaign.

Despite the circumstances of his exit, McKay struck a positive tone when reflecting on his time at the club. “I loved my time at Celtic,” he said. “I had a great summer there. We did, as a team, both on and off the field, some great work.

“I look back with enormous pride. It was really great to see them go on and have success, and I enjoyed that success as a fan.”

Pressed on whether there had been any fallout behind the scenes, McKay was unequivocal. “No, I didn’t fall out with anybody,” he said.

“As I said, it was just private and personal reasons for me.”
