PITTSBURGH — Veteran defensive tackle Larry Ogunjobi has signed a one-year deal with the Steelers, the team announced Tuesday night. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Ogunjobi registered a career-high seven sacks last season with the Bengals. He played his first four seasons with the Browns and has 21 1/2 career sacks.
Ogunjobi agreed to terms with the Bears on a $40.5 million contract during free agency in March, but he failed his physical after offseason foot surgery and remained a free agent.
The Steelers were looking to add some veteran depth to their defensive line after the retirement of Stephon Tuitt earlier this month. Cam Heyward and Tyson Alualu are penciled in as starters while Isaiahh Loudermilk and Chris Wormley are expected to compete for Tuitt’s old job in training camp.
Ogunjobi’s name should ring a bell for Steelers fans. He was involved in the Mason Rudolph-Myles Garrett dust-up in November 2019. After Garrett ripped Rudolph’s helmet off, Ogunjobi shoved Rudolph from behind and knocked him to the ground.
