Former Bootle school site could become flats under new plans

The site of a former Bootle school building could become home to 10 new flats under plans submitted to Sefton Council.

The proposals for the site, which sits next to St Monica’s parochial club on Stewart Lane in Bootle, include a mix of one- and two-bedroom flats on land currently owned by Sefton Council.

According to documents submitted last week as part of the planning application by Paddock Johnson, the aim is to create a “contemporary take on the terrace” which would fit well with the surrounding area.

Each unit would have a maisonette design and each property would have its own front door, creating a “sense of ownership” according to the design and access statement.

The two storey building, which matches the “dense urban grain” of the surrounding residential area would include private gardens for the downstairs units and a communal front garden for the upstairs units.

According to the planning documents, it is also expected residents would make use of the nearby Derby Park for recreation.

The application has indicated that the flats would be made available as social housing, if plans are approved.

The plans are currently open for comments and the application can be viewed on Sefton Council’s planning portal online.
