Former Cincinnati Bengals star wide receiver Chad Johnson will be a professional athlete again. This time, he’ll be on the soccer field.
Boca Ration Football Club has signed the 6-time Pro Bowl receiver. Haven’t heard of the soccer team? You aren’t alone. Per their team website, they are a semi-professional team in the UPSL.
Boca Raton Football Club is a semi-professional soccer team playing in the United Premier Soccer League, National Premier Soccer League, Florida Gold Coast League, and Beaches Adult Soccer League founded in 2015 by local businessmen, athletes, and soccer fans.
Johnson was given a trial, starting five games for the club. In those five games, he scored one goal and assisted on two others.
The club’s head coach is excited to bring on Johnson, calling him a ‘tremendous athlete.‘ That said, Johnson, who posted a picture of him seemingly after signing the deal, also seems thrilled to be playing soccer.
Switching up sports either during a professional career or after isn’t too uncommon. What is difficult is playing both at the highest level. While this is still a semi-pro team, Johnson and his work ethic to both stay in shape and develop his soccer touch should be commended.
