With the growing excitement surrounding the Bears’ quarterback situation with first-round rookie Justin Fields, it’s hard to believe that just a year ago it was Mitch Trubisky and Nick Foles competing for the starting job.
After four years of inconsistency where he never lived up to his first-round billing, Trubisky has found a new home with the Bills, where he’s serving as the backup to Josh Allen.
Trubisky met with the Buffalo media on Tuesday, where he shared how he’s getting “that love for the game back” with the Bills, where he inadvertently took a shot at the Bears in the process.
“Nice to be in a place where people want you and care about you progressing as a person and a player,” Trubisky said.

While Trubisky peaked in 2018, during his best season with Matt Nagy, he failed to take the next step in the two years that followed. After winning the starting job over Foles last training camp, he was benched during Week 3 before he replaced Foles in Week 12.
While he showed signs of improvement during those final six weeks, it was ultimately more of the same from Trubisky — an inability to read defenses and inconsistent accuracy issues. So it wasn’t a surprise the Bears let him walk in free agency.
All in all, parting ways was best for both sides. Trubisky gets a fresh start in Buffalo, where he has a chance to work with Bills offensive coordinator Brian Daboll while the Bears have drafted their franchise quarterback in Fields.
Still, Trubisky’ comments will make things interesting in a couple of weeks as Trubisky will return to Soldier Field on Aug. 21 when Chicago hosts Buffalo in Week 2 of the preseason.
