Former BBC presenter Dan Walker speaks out about Phillip Schofield departure

Former BBC Breakfast host and star Dan Walker has shared his thoughts on Phillip Schofield's departure from ITV.

Ex-This Morning presenter Mr Schofield quit ITV amid a furore over his extramarital affair with a younger male colleague. His talent agency YMU also dropped him after he admitted to the "unwise but not illegal" relationship.

In his first interview with the BBC since leaving the broadcaster and This Morning, Mr Schofield said he was "utterly broken and ashamed" but denied claims he had "groomed" the man.

Reacting to the interview, Strictly star Dan Walker urged people to stop "relentless hounding" as "people are on edge", reports BirminghamLive.

He said: "I really hope the issues at This Morning are investigated and resolved. I hope that the individuals involved get the help they need and the show stays on the air.

"I also hope the relentless hounding from some elements of the media stops. People are clearly on the edge."

In the BBC interview, Mr Schofield praised his daughters Ruby and Molly for "guarding him", telling Amol Rajan: "Last week, if my daughters hadn't been there then I wouldn't be here. And they've guarded me and won't let me out of their sight, it's like a weird numbness.

"I know that's a selfish point of view. But you come to a point where you just think, how much are you supposed to take? If all of those people that write all that stuff, do they ever think that there's actually a person at the other end?"
