Former Ayr United and Hearts hero Ryan Stevenson appointed Glenafton Athletic manager

Glenafton Athletic have today hired a new management dream team with Ryan Stevenson and Mark Roberts at the wheel.

Former Ayr United hero 'Stevo' takes charge with ex-Kilmarnock and Honest Men striker Roberts – who also bossed the Somerset Park club – in as assistant.

The duo have replaced Mick McCann who resigned following the shock 4-3 defeat to Bonnyton Thistle at the weekend.

Lowly Glens sit 16th in the West of Scotland League Premier Division table and are in deep relegation trouble.

However, the Afton Army will be hoping Stevenson and Roberts are the perfect pairing to mastermind their escape from the dreaded drop.

And Glenafton's new era will begin this Saturday when they run affairs for the trip to Hurlford United.

A club statement read: "Glenafton Athletic are delighted to announce the appointment of our new management team.

"Our new manager is Ryan Stevenson. Ryan has enjoyed a glittering playing career with spells at Ayr, Ipswich Town, Chelsea and Hearts.

"Assistant manager Mark Roberts has a wealth of experience in football having managed Ayr and Queen's Park, and he also enjoyed a very successful playing career including spells at Ayr and Kilmarnock. Mark also has his UEFA 'A' Licence.

"We are delighted to have Ryan and Mark as part of our management team and we believe this is an exciting appointment for the club.

"Both men are enthusiastic about the job and are excited to get started.

"We are appealing for all our support to get fully behind the new management team and the players as we look to climb up the league table and avoid the threat of relegation."
