Formby Beach has finally had more toilets installed for visitors to use

On sunny days, people flock to Formby's coastline from miles around.

Formby Beach often features in "top beach" lists, and is regularly considered one of the best beaches in the country.

Between the seaside, the mazes of pinewoods, and the rare red squirrel, it has everything you need for a great day out.

Except, perhaps, more facilities.

There is one set of toilets available at the Victoria Road car park, near to the entrance and the woodlands, but with some 150 acres of golden sands, people have frequently asked why there aren't more toilets.

Plans were drawn up to build more toilets, as well as a new café, in 2019.

At the time, the National Trust (NT) said there was "strong support" for the new facilities at Lifeboat Road, but the proposals caused a stir with some local residents.

Today, NT has announced new temporary toilets have been installed in the car park at Lifeboat Road, and will be operational from now until the end of the summer season.

They’re available for visitors to use during opening hours - which you can find here

Earlier this week, beach goers were advised to "plan ahead" for the Bank Holiday weekend.

Sefton Council and its partners are encouraging people to consider alternative destinations to its famous beaches.

With the recent lifting of some lockdown restrictions and the rule of six back in action, Sefton Council and police are preparing for a potential influx of visitors to the area's popular beaches.

Visitors looking to head to the coast are being encouraged to explore travel options such as walking or cycling to avoid traffic jams and delays, while drivers are being urged to be considerate to local residents when parking and to avoid fines by using official parking spaces only.

They can also play their part in protecting the beaches and keeping the coast’s precious wildlife safe by taking all their litter home and by not lighting fires or BBQs anywhere at the coast.
