Forgotten Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Costel Pantilimon takes up new role

Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Costel Pantilimon has taken up a new role in his Romanian homeland.

The 33-year-old remains under contract at the City Ground until 2021, though spent the second half of last season on loan at Cypriot side Omonia.

He has been out of the first-team picture under Sabri Lamouchi and it is expected the Reds will look to move him on, if they can.

But in the meantime, Pantilimon has taken on responsibility for international relations at the Children and Juniors Centre at the Polytechnic University of Timisoara.

The shot-stopper started out at Politehnica Timisoara and, according to Timis Online, “will deal with the international relations of the children and juniors of the Timișoara Polytechnic”.

Pantilimon told the website: "I wanted to get strictly involved in what it means for children and juniors - to give my support to the Polytechnic and to President Viorel Serban.

“I can get involved in improving coaching skills, if there is a chance that they will go to England or another area where I can help through my relationships.

“Regarding what it means to work with children and juniors, if there are talented children who we think can reach a club or in a stronger environment abroad, we try to send them to trials or maybe we will organize competitions between clubs, with groups from the academies of the teams I played for.”

He added: "I played in Timisoara. This partnership with the fans and the Polytechnic University is my way of helping.

“In general, if I am asked for help in this city, I accept. They asked me for it and I couldn't refuse it. Plus I had discussions with President Viorel Serban… Plus I am attached to certain guys I played with. We have been colleagues over the years.”
