Forensic officers comb Coatbridge property after mystery death

Forensics officers combed a Coatbridge property on Wednesday afternoon after emergency services raced to the scene of a mystery death.

Police and fire crews were called to attend an address in the Lanarkshire town's Kirkshaws Road following the death of a 63-year-old man.

Locals reported smelling burning in the street at the time the unidentified male suddenly passed away and police probing his death are treating it as unexplained.

Six officers in forensic suits, complete with face masks, carried out an investigation at the property, which is believed to be a flat, and a uniformed officer was pictured standing guard at the door.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Police were called around 1.35pm on Wednesday, March 25, 2020, following the sudden death of a 63-year-old man at a property on Kirkshaws Road, Coatbridge.

"The death is currently being treated as unexplained but there does not appear to be any suspicious circumstances.

"A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal."
