A story on medical staff moving overseas said: “Anecdotal evidence suggests that young doctors, whose training can cost the taxpayer up to £1m, now comprise an ever larger proportion of those seeking work abroad.” We should clarify that the figure of £1m embraces university fees, tuition costs over six or seven years, salaries for two or three years while reaching a competent level, insurance and indemnities, items not all met by the taxpayer (“New doctors opting for a better life abroad”, News, 23 August, page 11).
A piece on the mayoral election in London referred to Zac Goldsmith as “Richmond MP”. He is the MP for Richmond Park; Richmond is a constituency in North Yorkshire, held from 1989 until the last election by former Conservative leader William Hague and now represented by Rishi Sunak (“For Labour, a London mayor is essential. Defeat is unthinkable”, Comment, last week, page 37).
Our report of the annual general meeting of train and bus operator Stagecoach was written in anticipation of the event. It had, however, already been held (“Pirc’s Stagecoach pay campaign departs early”, Business, last week, page 41).
