A subheading in New Review (page 15) said: “The last execution in France took place at La Santé [prison] in 1972.” This was incorrect. The last execution (of murderer Hamida Djandoubi) took place at Baumettes prison in Marseille on 10 September 1977.
A timeline entitled “The battle between left and right” which accompanied “Athens ’44: Britain’s dirty secret” (Magazine, 30 November, page 24) said that when German forces withdrew from most of Greece, it was taken over by local partisans. Most of them were members of ELAS, the armed wing of the Communist KKE party. We should clarify that ELAS was the armed wing of the National Liberation Front, EAM, which included the Communist KKE party.
A piece tracking the shrinking sizes of popular Christmas treats said that this year a bag of KP dry roasted peanuts weighed 450g, compared with 500g last year. In fact, the size was reduced before Christmas 2012 (“Christmas suffers from diminishing returns”, News 16 November, page 15).
