Footballer Behind Chappell Roan Allegations Has Now Backtracked: ‘Things Weren’t What They Seemed’

Jorge Luiz Frello Filho Cavaliere has backtracked on his Chappell Roan stance, weeks after his claims about the singer’s security team sent the internet into a downright tizzy.

The fiasco kicked off last month when Jorge, a Brazilian footballer, took to Instagram to accuse one of Chappell’s security guards of acting “extremely aggressively” to his young step-daughter after she approached the singer in a hotel restaurant.

Jorge slammed Chappell for the alleged incident at the time — accusing the guard of “disrespect” and “harrassment” — but he has now come forward to label the ordeal as a “misunderstanding” brought on “in the heat of the moment”.

“I made my initial statement in the heat of the moment, after hearing that my child and wife had been approached by an adult male security guard in an intimidating way,” Jorginho wrote on Instagram.

“I reacted as any father would. My priority is, and always will be, protecting my family, and that is exactly what I did,” he added.

The footballer said he was “acting on the information available” when he first shared the post, but has since learned Chappell “had no knowledge of what took place” during the incident. He also revealed the pop star had personally reached out to his family.

“I have become aware of new information that has changed my understanding of parts of what happened. Chappell Roan made a public statement, reached out privately to [my wife] Catherine, and our teams also spoke directly,” Jorge wrote.

“It became clear that she had no knowledge of what took place at breakfast and had not asked anyone to approach them. She was understanding and sympathetic to what had happened to our child.”

Jorge went on to say that the public statement shared by Pascal Duvier, the security guard who took “full responsibility for the interactions” with his step-daughter, had forced him to rethink exactly what went down at the hotel.

“While we still do not know what prompted [Pascal] to approach them, and do not believe an 11-year-old at breakfast could reasonably be seen as any kind of security threat, it is now clear that he was not acting on behalf of Chappell,” Jorge said.

“It was, ultimately, a misunderstanding in that respect, and I am glad to set the record straight. It’s important to me that this is clarified fairly and accurately. I regret the impact this situation has had on Chappell Roan, Catherine Ada, and our family.”

Chappell denied the claims at the time, saying on social media that she “didn’t even see” a young fan in the hotel and that “no one came up to me”.

“I did not ask this security guard to go up to talk to this child, they did not come up to me, they weren’t doing anything,” Chappell said.

The ordeal whipped up a bunch of heated discourse — from roping in the mayor of Rio to raising pre-exisiting questions about Chappell’s relationship with fans — but Jorge’s update appears to draw a line in the sand.

“As far as I am concerned, this matter is closed,” he wrote.

Chappell has not yet reacted to Jorge’s post. The singer was spotted at Coachella over the weekend in what was her first public outing since the controversy.
