Footage shows group of youths jumping from railway bridge into River Liffey causing chaos for commuters

This footage shows a gang of youths jumping from the Custom House Bridge into the Liffey.

The incident occurred at around 3:30pm on Thursday afternoon, when the young swimmers were spotted jumping off the railway bridge into the River Liffey.

According to Dublin Live the youths trespassed onto the railway line adjacent to Tara Street station, putting themselves in danger and then began to jump into the River.

In the video the Dart can be seen moving behind the youths as they prepare to jump.

The incident caused chaos for Irish rail drivers and passengers alike as trains were delayed by 10 to 15 minutes as trains proceeded with great caution until the line was clear.

Irish rail staff now regularly patrol the platform to prevent incidents like this happening again.

Gardaí were called to the scene after the teens were seen trespassing onto the train tracks and jumping off the bridge, as depicted in footage shared by Panti Bliss.

A spokesman from Irish Rail said: “This occurred at Custom House Bridge adjacent to Tara Street Station on earlier (15:25hrs approximately).

“Gardaí and our own infrastructure team were alerted after a group of youths trespassed on the line to jump into the Liffey.

“Obviously this is extraordinarily reckless, and as well as delaying services, those involved place themselves in extreme danger.

“Staff patrolled the platform to prevent further instances, and do so regularly during the day at the station.”

A garda spokeswoman said: "I refer to your query and can advise Gardaí did attend the incident at approximately 3.35p.m.this afternoon Thursday 15 th July, 2021 at Custom House Bridge.

"A number of youths were jumping from the bridge into the water and trains were delayed as a result.

"Youths had dispersed upon arrival of Gardaí."
