Footage shows brave Gardai tackle and disarm knife-wielding man on busy Dublin street

This is the moment brave Gardai tackled and disarmed a knife-wielding man on a busy Dublin street at rush hour on Friday.

A number of Gardai responded to a public order incident at a premises on Talbot Street, where a man in his mid-30s allegedly assaulted two members of staff.

The video shows three members of the force rushing after the alleged armed assailant before he decides to give up the ghost.

The two male Gardai get him on the ground, but shouts of "give me the knife" can be clearly heard as the three struggled, while a female Garda tells worried onlookers "it's okay" and "we got him".

Eventually another two members of the force come in and assist in the disarming and eventual arrest, Dublin Live reports.

A Garda spokesperson told Dublin Live: "Gardai responded to a public order incident on Friday 28 August 2020 at approximately 5.15pm at a premises on Talbot Street in Dublin.

"Two members of staff at the premises were allegedly threatened and assaulted during the incident.

"A 36 year-old man was later arrested and taken to Store Street Garda station.

"The two members of staff received injuries which are not believed to be life-threatening. Investigations ongoing."
