Food warnings as Lidl, Irn-Bru, Greggs and more urgently recall products

Lidl and Iceland shoppers as well as Irn-Bru drinkers have been warned by food alerts from the Food Standards Agency (FSA).

The regulator has issued four warnings in recent days for reasons ranging from salmonella, allergies, and food that may contain plastic.

Depending on the product, customers are advised to return them for a full refund, such as with the Greggs pasty, or even to handle the item with care as in the case of Irn-Bru glass products.

One alert may give you pause before tucking into some chocolate this bank holiday.

We've put together the latest food alerts and recalls you need to know here.

Lidl recall

This is a word of warning for people with a sulphur dioxide allergy.

"Lidl GB is recalling Starovice Czech Lager 5.0% because it contains sulphur dioxide which is not mentioned on the label," the alert reads.

"This means the product is a possible health risk for anyone with a sensitivity to sulphur dioxide and/or sulphites."

Irn-Bru recall

The caps of glass Irn-Bru bottles could suddenly pop off (PA)

The FSA says AG Barr is recalling IRN-BRU Regular and IRN-BRU 1901 750ml glass bottles on a precautionary basis due to a "small number of reports that the bottle caps pop off unexpectedly".

Customers are advised to open the bottles with care to release the pressure.

"Bottles should be handled carefully and pointed away from the body at arm's length when opening," says the warning.

"Consumers should then contact AG Barr at consumercare@agbarr.co.uk."

Greggs recall

The frozen Greggs products are only sold in Iceland shops (Iceland)

Greggs frozen 2 pack Chicken Bake, which is sold exclusively in Iceland stores, has been recalled because some packs have been found to contain pieces of hard plastic.

Strauss Israel's confectionery products

This warning is specific to Scotland, England, and Wales.

"Strauss Israel is taking the precautionary action of recalling several Elite branded confectionery products because they may be contaminated with Salmonella," says the warning.
