Food delivery rider wins one of China’s highest literary honours

  • Chinese food delivery rider Wang Jibing, 56, has been awarded the prestigious Lu Xun Literary Prize for his poetry collection, Low Flight.
  • His winning work draws inspiration from conversations with over 200 fellow delivery riders, reflecting the challenges of China's vast gig economy.
  • Wang, who left school at 14, gained initial recognition after a frustrating delivery incident in 2019 prompted him to write the viral poem, Man in a Hurry .
  • Despite receiving one of China's highest literary honours, Mr Wang plans to continue his delivery job until he is 60, saying he enjoys the work and aims to give a voice to ordinary people.
  • His award is part of a broader trend in China where blue-collar and grassroots workers are increasingly gaining recognition within the literary world.
