Mauritanian Foreign Minister Isselkou Ould Ahmed Izid Bih on Monday received Morocco's new ambassador Hamid Chabar after years of tension between two countries, the German news agency reported in a report from Nouakchott.
The diplomat presented a copy of his credentials to Bih before meeting President Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz during a ceremony at the presidential palace.
Chabar was appointed ambassador to Mauritania in early 2017. However, Nouakchott did not agree to his nomination until October.
The diplomat came to Mauritania last week to assume his duties after the two countries breaking the ice over their opposing views on the disputed Western Sahara file between Morocco and the Polisario Front, backed by Algeria.
Mauritania has not sent an ambassador to Morocco since 2012, but in December it appointed a new ambassador to Rabat.
Mauritania supports the United Nations plan for a political solution that satisfies both sides and adopts a positive attitude of neutrality from the conflict in Western Sahara.
