Amid all the hype around Leigh Hoffman v Matt Richardson, neither sprint ace has won an Olympic gold medal.
Enter Australian guns Oliver Bleddyn and Conor Leahy, who will spearhead the men's team pursuit when the Commonwealth Games track cycling program starts on Friday morning (AEST) at the Sir Chris Hoy velodrome.
Richardson's shock defection from the Australian sprint program to Great Britain just days after the Paris Games ensured he would be one of the biggest stories of the Glasgow Games.
He and Hoffman joined Matthew Glaetzer, now retired, in winning Australia a breakthrough team sprint bronze medal at the last Olympics.
As with swimming, Australia will dominate the team events because the powerful Great Britain track program is split up at the Games.
So it should be 1-0 to Hoffman after day one, which will feature the men's and women's team sprints and team pursuits.
Where the men's sprint program will become extra spicy is in the individual events - the match sprint and keirin - where Hoffman and Richardson will most likely duel for gold.
But first, Bleddyn, Leahy and Hoffman will be front and centre when the day-one gold medals are decided.
Hoffman, Richardson and Glaetzer also won gold in Birmingham and it will be a new-look line-up for Glasgow with Daniel Barber, Ryan Elliott and Tayte Ryan in the sprint squad.
Bleddyn and Leahy were in the men's 4000m team pursuit line-up that won a breakthrough gold medal in Paris, beating the world record and then their British rivals in a pulsating final.
Then, they were the more junior riders alongside Sam Welsford and Kel O'Brien, who switched to the road after Paris.
Blake Agnoletto, James Moriarty and Tom Cornish are the track endurance riders now out to establish themselves in the team pursuit ahead of the Los Angeles Olympics.
There is healthy competition for spots and Bleddyn said growing depth in the track endurance squad is boosting the campaign to defend their Olympic title.
"The culture stays the same, but then I guess more people integrate and I would say the environment is growing," Bleddyn told AAP.
"There are more people who are stepping up and coming into the (track endurance) squad.
"There are new possibilities and it's good for the sport."
This will be Bleddyn's first Commonwealth Games - he missed out on Birmingham, when Australia took bronze in the men's team pursuit.
The women's team pursuit will feature Felicity Wilson-Haffenden, a massive talent who won the 2023 junior road time trial world championship.
She looms as the engine room for their Commonwealth Games title defence, alongside three-time Birmingham gold medallist Georgia Baker.
The women's team sprint will be an important marker for the Australian women, who did not race in the event at the Paris Olympics.
The Australian women's sprint program is still rebuilding post-Anna Meares, Kaarle McCulloch and Stef Morton.
Kristina Clonan and Alessia McCaig are at the core of the Glasgow squad.
Day one will also include men's and women's tandem events and a women's para-cycling individual pursuit as part of the integrated program.
