'Flying winger' Gary Marshall speaks to Subs Bench in latest Bristol City catch-up

This week it's another Terry Cooper signing as the Subs Bench team take their latest stroll down memory lane, with former Bristol City winger Gary Marshall in the limelight.

Marshall talks through his time at Ashton Gate as Richard Latham and Nigel Turner visit him at his home in the Mendips.

The former Shepton Mallet player discusses how he joined up at City, with mention of Bryan Drysdale and also Paul Cheesley, and almost joining Exeter City.

Marshall made his debut against Derby County, explaining how the Rams had just spent big money on John Robertson, and the now 55-year-old talks though scoring on his debut from an Alan Walsh cross and more in front of his watching family.

"To score on debut was absolutely brilliant," explains Marshall to his interviewers, as well as discussing being on the bench for the 1986 trip to Wembley with boss Cooper.

Marshall discusses having a career outside football and rising through the apprenticeship ranks from 1982, with the club in financial straits at the time and only looking at free transfers.

The wide-attacker who made some 68 league appearances for the Robins also talks about working and playing, keeping fit at the same time, pre-season and breaking through to the first team, plus more.
