In case his shirt and the flashes of lime green on his racket weren’t enough, Thanasi Kokkinakis decided to accessorise with some fluoro lime and pink wristbands.
Lime and pink was a popular colour combination this year – the Canadian wunderkind Eugenie Bouchard chose some wristbands to bring together her dress and visor.
Perhaps Bouchard was taking her cue from Rafael Nadal, who had chosen to wear the exact same combination in his match two hours earlier.
Sloane Stephens was another to go for the pink and lime combination, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Victoria Azarenka …
Azarenka’s white-fading-to-neon look worked out well for her, but she wasn’t the only one.
Local hope Nick Kyrgios went down the same path as Azarenka.
Even the usually elegant Roger Federer embraced lime, matching his shirt and shoes.
He wasn’t the only one – Bethanie Mattek-Sands chose lime for her match against Duan Yingying.
Germany’s Dustin Brown got in on the act.
Ilya Marchenko, left, and Milos Raonic were equally enthusiastic adopters of the trend.
Australia’s Marinko Matosevic was delighted to make it into the second round …
… or perhaps he was just angry that compatriot James Duckworth had gone for the same lurid-orange-top-with-blue-shorts combo.
Caroline Wozniacki made sure all the colours of highlighter pens were represented by wearing this blue dress.
But the people who will be most embarrassed will be the large group of women who turned up wearing exactly the same thing, a white-fading-to-pink dress by Nike.
Such as Lucie Hradecka, Sara Errani and Sabine Lisicki …
… Petra Martic, Klara Koukalova and Anna Schmiedlova …
… and Roberta Vinci, Shuai Zhang and Caroline Garcia. Petra Kvitova and Taylor Townsend also chose to wear the pink Nike dress.
What will those who survived wear in the second round? We can’t wait to find out.
