Floyd Mayweather's rival vows to "kill or be killed" in fight with legend

Floyd Mayweather's upcoming exhibition opponent John Gotti III has vowed to "kill or be killed" when the pair meet in the ring in Florida this summer.

The MMA fighter, who has recently made the move into boxing, is the grandson of notorious New York crime boss John Gotti and carries the family name with him into the ring. He is 2-0 as a professional and 6-1 in the cage, with Mayweather offering a monster step up this summer.

Speaking at a press conference yesterday, the 30-year-old declared that he is coming for a legitimate fight, despite the usual nature of Mayweather's slow-paced exhibitions. He will have a significant size advantage over the boxing legend, standing five inches taller and last tipping the scales almost 20lb over Mayweather's career-highest weight.

“I did school projects on Floyd," Gotti admitted. "I have been team Mayweather since nine years old but it is time to get it on and fight. I’m going to show him what these previous YouTubers couldn’t do because they suck. But Floyd is going to have to earn his money. This is a real fight I am not here to play and I am ready to fight.

"Make no mistake on June 11 I am bringing bad intentions to that man, and I don't care if it is an exhibition fight or not it is kill or be killed. I have never met Floyd before today and not in one million years did I think I would be fight. I was watching Floyd on YouTube previously so the fact I am up here and getting to fight him is a pinch me moment."

Mayweather has been on a world tour of exhibitions since his 2017 retirement, where he went 50-0 against UFC legend Conor McGregor. He's fought in London, Miami, Tokyo, Abu Dhabi and Dubai against a series of seemingly random opponents from kickboxers and MMA fighters to YouTubers such as Deji and Logan Paul.

The bout with Gotti will be his first fight Stateside since the infamous meeting with Paul, which went the eight round distance and reportedly sold in the region of 1million buys on pay-per-view despite being a monstrous mismatch. No winner is declared in his fights, but he has managed to stop most of his opponents before the eight rounds are done.

He most recently faced Aaron Chalmers at London's O2 arena, going eight rounds with the Geordie Shore star while never getting out of first gear. That bout was a flop at the box office, with the majority of seats remaining empty at the 20,000 capacity venue despite both men's star power.
