Florida boy, 13, charged with felony after threatening school, deputies say

ORLANDO, Fla. _ A 13-year-old student is facing a felony charge after Volusia County deputies say he threatened to shoot up River Springs Middle School in Orange City, Fla.

The student, a seventh-grader, made the comments in a restroom Monday afternoon, sheriff's spokeswoman Laura Williams said. Several other students reported the comments to law enforcement.

The boy tried to blame another student for making the comments before admitting that he was lying, Williams said.

He was charged with making a false report concerning the use of firearms _ a felony. He's one of 20 Volusia County students who have been charged with making school threats since the Feb. 14 tragedy at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, Williams said.
