Flooding still possible in parts of Leeds two days after Storm Ciara

Water levels remain high along parts of the River Aire through Leeds, meaning flooding is still possible. As many as 39 flood warnings were in place at one time in Leeds and surrounding areas over the last 48 hours, as Storm Ciara brought torrential rainfall and strong winds.

Kirkstall was badly affected, and bars along the river in Leeds city centre couldn't keep the water out. Roads were closed due to the flooding and motorists warned not to travel unless absolutely necessary.

The Middle River Aire catchment - near Hunslet - still has a flood alert in place, with flooding 'possible'. The Environment Agency warns that river levels are still 'elevated', with further showers forecast later today.

Elsewhere, Barnsdale Road between Allerton Bywater and Castleford is still closed with standing water on it.

These are the five flood alerts currently in place in Leeds and surrounding areas:

Across England there are currently 57 flood warnings in place, and 165 flood alerts. Visit the Flood Information Service website for more information.
