Flight attendant tells why passengers should never call on them for water

A flight attendant has shared some of the reasons why she loves her job - and has also revealed one of her pet peeves.

Kristina, 27, from Moscow, says that she has “lots of advice” for passengers, among them why fliers shouldn't buzz the crew to their seat when asking for water. The Aeroflot flight attendant explained: “Number one – don’t push the call button for asking for a cup of water because our job is hard!”

Instead, she says that passengers should head to the galley to ask instead, so long as the seatbelt sign is switched off. As for her favourite part of the job, Kristina Loves “welcoming passengers on board, taking care of passengers, providing any assistance if needed as well as smiling and making passengers smile.”

The flight hostess - who has six years of experience - told the Daily Star that she joined the job because her “passion is for travelling”.

She also noted: “It’s so interesting to learn about new cultures, [having] open eyes in different countries is a good experience.”

She posts about her jet-set lifestyle on Instagram, @dementevaakristina, where she has a whopping 12,200 followers. The air-hostess and influencer has visited 24 countries so far on her travels – and gets recognised for her online presence when working at 36,000ft.

Kristina commented: “Of course I like passengers who recognise me from my Instagram – it’s [my] pleasure. I also like those who call me by my name. Who follow the rules of our company and [act] with understanding of our job.”

When it comes to the work, Kristina certainly knows where, and how, she likes to fly. She told the Travel team: “I prefer long haul flights, because my favourite plane is Boeing 777.

“Only Boeing has long flights and interesting destinations! But short hours flights I like too if it will be flight to other country because we have free time there – like a Spain or France.

“Actually, Spain is my favourite country – I visited many cities [there]. I like the climate in Spain, food, culture, wine, sea, Spanish architecture! Also I like the Spanish language.”

And, she prefers to work business class rather than economy too. Kristina said: “I like working in business class more, because there is a high [level of] service in business class like in the restaurant. Also the passengers are good.”

On top of having fun visiting exotic countries and entertaining customers though there is a tricky side to being a flight attendant.

Kristina noted: “Every year we refresh our knowledge. What to do in emergency situations, how extinguish a fire or provide medical assistance. We have to pass a lot of exams. It’s hard work, but interesting.”
