Flight attendant explains why she tells travellers to always leave one shoe in their hotel safe

When it comes to going on holiday, there are plenty of travel hacks out there that can help you to make the most out of your trip, save money and stay safe - but this is one of the more unusual ones out there.

One flight attendant has insisted that she swears by one golden rule when staying away from home - and it involves a safe and a shoe. A lot of hotels and other travel accommodation will offer you a safe to store your personal belongings, but many people don't make use of these as they're concerned that they might forget their valuables inside when they leave.

However, there is one easy tip that you can try to make sure this doesn't happen, according to the flight attendant who shared her advice on TikTok. Esther, who works at Dutch airline KLM, told followers who are worried that they will forget the items in their safe to leave one of the shoes they are planning to wear the following day inside.

The idea is that when it comes time to leave the next day, you will find that you have a shoe missing and be reminded to collect your valuables from the safe. Fellow travellers praised the advice as "very handy" and a "great idea", saying that they were going to try it next time they went on holiday.

The interesting hotel hack was one of several recommended by Esther. The flight attendant also showed how when her accommodation provides her with a shower cap, she uses it to cover the TV remote to prevent picking up any germs, before using it as a cover for her shoes when packing them into her case to stop any dirt from the soles getting onto her clothes.

She also advised that if your room comes with coat hangers that have trouser clips on them, you can use this to fasten your curtains shut if you find that there is a gap between them letting daylight in. And after the first video racked up a million views, Esther made a second one with several more tips - including hanging your clothes up in the bathroom when showering to get any creases from the suitcase out.
