Flat Cardiff City v Sunderland player ratings as Ojo and Philogene hooked early but defender a clear standout

Ryan Allsop 5

Couldn't fault him for too much in the first half, he barely had anything to do. But Dennis Cirkin's goal came after he tipped it on to the near post. He might have done better.

Perry Ng 6

His set-piece delivery and general crossing was spot on for most of the game. Defensively didn't do too much wrong, either. A solid outing.

Mark McGuinness 7 (star man)

The best of the bunch at the back. Headed everything, put in some good tackles and positionally very good against a strong forward line. Blocked a number of shots and crosses, too.

Cedric Kipre 6

Got skinned once or twice by Amad, but very strong in the air and quick out of the blocks to intercept. Booked for a late challenge on Jack Clarke. Made a good late block to deny Joe Gelhardt.

Mahlon Romeo 6

Started on the left and ended up on the right. Did a decent enough job of getting up and down the flanks without being outstanding. Put in a couple of crunching challenges to get the fans cheering.

Ryan Wintle 5

Midfield was overrun early doors but it improved. Not a great deal to write home about, though.

Romaine Sawyers 5

Just gone a little off the boil in recent weeks. Couldn't impact the game at all before coming off on the hour.

Sheyi Ojo 4

Gave the ball away a few times and just did not get himself involved in the game. Hooked after 36 minutes by the manager.

Jaden Philogene 4

Had one shot dragged wide early on, otherwise did nothing to impact the game. Subbed off with Ojo and threw his gloves on the floor.

Connor Wickham 5

The ball just didn't stick to him, which we have become accustomed to, and he lost a number of duels. Just wasn't his day, for whatever reason. Rightly pulled at half time.

Sory Kaba 6

Looked quite cumbersome, which is not unusual, but had very few scraps off which to feed. Was found by Sawyers in the first half and should have buried his header - but it was saved. Became a focal point in the second half.

Subs

Jack Simpson (Philogene '36) 6 - Hard task up against Amad but held his own. Was tidy enough with the ball, too.

Andy Rinomhota (Ojo '36) 5 - Ticked play along OK without doing anything fantastically well. Booked for a bad foul on Amad.

Kion Etete (Wickham '46) 5 - A decent performance after coming back from injury. Held-up play better than Wickham and linked-up play nicely. Booked for a cynical foul and was wasteful with a few chances.

Joe Ralls (Sawyers '61) 6 - Actually looked a threat when he came on, putting in crosses from that left-hand side. Odd that he didn't start.

Isaak Davies (Romeo '78) N/A - Was stuck out on the left but didn't produce a great deal.
